2023 Weatherization Blitz: During this event we need people to serve in varying capacities. We will need people who want to simply relate to homeowners, people who want to get a little dirty and explore under and over mobile homes to make small insulating fixes, and those who feel comfortable opening walls, floors and ceilings to make sure houses are well insulated and plumbed.

November 4th | Why do we need a Weatherization Event??? (Moved to Saturday, November 4th)

Scene 1: She looks out the window at red cheeked kids with stiff mittens waddling along pulling down 4 foot icicles that hang down from the neighborhood rooves, a pleasant picture of the human resilience during the harshness of winter. Inside, a much different picture: Water sprays from the daisy patterned wall paper that once covered the bathroom wall, where instead appears a hole from which water sprays, now covering her bathroom floor. She sits defeated and wondering: how she can make the water stop. . .if the pictures stored below her house are ruined . . .if she will have enough to pay the plumber that she asked her nephew to call.

Scene 2" She sits in a Aztec design knit sweater at the kitchen table. Last year her husband passed away. . . he used to open all of these bills. A quick tearing sound reveals her Xcel bill, $371! It was only $113 the month before. She weeps for the loss of her husband the present feeling of overwhelming financial burden. She doesn't know that she could be paying far less, and not need the sweater, if only there was enough insulation in her ceiling, walls and floor.

As winter closes in, many people will find themselves ill-equipped for the cold. They can't see the broken pipes or know the amount of money they could be saving each month by preparing now. This lack of preparation might leave people in hard times financially, physically, mentally and emotionally. Peering into the future you might be able to empathize with these individuals. As you see the frozen pipes and high energy bills causing financial strain you agonize, "If only they would have seen this coming, it could have been stopped before it happened." Well, I have good news for you, welcome to the "Before it happened"!!! The moment to stop the damage and love these people before calamity strikes is now!! Teams of 3 to 4 people will visit homes in low income areas and attempt to love people by walking through their house and evaluating their winterization needs.
